Yoga on the Ropes - Open Practice and Review: A Nest Flight Series

August 19, 2021
5:00-7:00pm PST

The Yoga on the Ropes special class series will show you how to use ropes attached to the wall to hang your body in suspension. This allows the student to find support and guidance as they go deeper into various poses.

This practice began with B.K. S. Iyengar and was called Yoga Kurunta - Puppet Yoga. According to Geeta S. Iyengar, not only can a rope wall support students who are stiff, weak, or unable to perform certain asanas, it can also be a new and exciting way to practice yoga and reach places that your regular yoga practice cannot take you!

The biggest benefit of the rope wall is that it provides a much deeper stretch than a practitioner might normally find in a yoga pose. The ropes allow you to hold poses longer than you can in the middle of the room. The traction of the ropes provides support for standing poses, shoulder and hip work and even supine poses. And when you can hold poses longer, it helps you work on more nuance of alignment, breath awareness and energetics.

The class will be a balance of all categories of poses. If you don’t have a rope wall at home, you will learn ways you can use a yoga belt in a similar way.
